This is probably the most frequent question I get asked. So I thought I would take the afternoon and answer it for you. I can’t wait to see you all on here! #PaysToPlay
Congratulations on joining Snapchat! Tell me your username in the comments below and I’ll add you!
Every time you launch Snapchat you will see this screen.
Now let me explain the buttons. Just click on the image for more information.
And that big button in the center at the bottom, that’s how you capture a picture or a video. Tap once for a picture – Hold down for a 10 second video.
Your profile is where you can see who has added you, add friends and see your friends. When you click on “Added Me” it will display those who have recently added you as well as give you the option to add them back. If your a dork like me, it also tells you how they added you under their user name.
When you click on the “Add Friends” it will provide you with several options.
Add by Username – As easy as it sounds. Go a head, try mine: kusnib05
Add from Address Book – Checks for your contacts phone numbers. If one of your contacts uses their phone number on their Snapchat account it will suggest them to you.
Add by Snapcode – If you have taken a picture of someone’s snapcode and it is stored in your camera roll, Snapchat will scan the code and ask you if you would like to add that person. Funny, haha — if you scan your own code it displays an LOL message.
Add Nearby – Adds those near by if their “Add Nearby” is also open. Think bluetooth sharing.
Share Username – Allows you to share your username over text, email, or any social channel you have set up to share with your device.
Other Options On Your Profile
Settings – Top Right Corner (looks like a cog)
Trophies – Top Center (looks like a trophy). Snapchat encourages its users to get familiar with the app by awarding its users trophies. Want to learn more —-> Click Here.
Help – Top Left Corner (looks like a question mark). Shows you how to capture a snapcode.
Profile Picture – Click on your unique snapcode in the center of your profile screen.
Now tap the capture button below the code. Snapchat will prompt you by using a countdown. It will take a series of pictures. To make your picture interesting try changing your facial expressions. It’s a lot more engaging.
There are so many options with the messenger! This is by far one of the best ways to reach your friends and family. It’s the best of Skype and text all in one simple to use application! In addition if you have the notifications turned on the app will LITERALLY alert you when the other person is typing! How cool is that?!?
So what can you do?
First things first. Swipe right on someone’s name to chat.
From here there are several options. Just like before click on the image for more information.
A Snapchat story is a photo or video you post to your very own stories section (or feed) of your account, which is visible by you and all your friends. To get here remember all you have to do is swipe right in the home (or photo/video capture screen) or click on the icon in the bottom right hand corner of the home screen.
From here you have several options. And I encourage you to play. It pays to play. 😉
Ok Breanna, I get it. I want to make something! How do I create all those fun faces, and draw, and add stickers, and add them all to my feed?
Go back to the home screen.
Add A Selfie Lens
To add a selfie lens all you need to do is be in a well lit room (I’ve learned that if it’s too dark the app will not work) and use your finger to hold your face. Now you have activated the lenses. Follow the instructions on each to get the added special effects. The lenses change all the time so check often. You never know what you will find!
Once you have decided which lens you want to use click on the button above the “X” to take a picture. Hold the button if you would like to take a 10 second video.
Add A Geofilter
After you have captured an image you can add a geofilter as well as other special effects such as speed up, slow down, and reverse (if you have taken a video). These are currently the options available but I do not know how long they will be available. They, just like the filters, change.
To add a geofilter just swipe right. If you want to add more than one – select your first filter – hold the screen with one finger to keep it in place – and then swipe right again while still holding the screen. This may take some practice.
Drawing, Stickers, and Text
Ok let’s make this picture a little more personal…
