Here we go again – new buttons. And New Bern, North Carolina was a test market!

download (2).jpegFacebook has done it again, only this time they were sneaky. Did you catch the newest edition to the Facebook Reactions lineup?

In honor of Mother’s Day on Sunday, May 8 the social media website revealed the ‘flower’ emoji. Of course, the other reactions — love, haha, wow, sad and angry — capture what you thought were the full range of emotions, but the ‘flower’ is actually Facebook’s way of allowing you to give thanks.

Multiple sources have indicated that the thankful reaction would only be available on Mother’s Day, but I, as well as many others, still had the reaction available until early this morning.

It’s the first time Facebook has offered a temporary reaction since expanding on the ‘like’ button. It’s also not known if all Facebook users were given the opportunity to use the emoji. It seems that Facebook was, once again, testing the temporary reaction in different markets around the world. Luckily for us here in New Bern, North Carolina we were one of them!

It interesting to think of the future of reactions given the direction Facebook is heading. With Father’s Day around the corner, who knows what will be next?!? Maybe we will have little Christmas trees around the holidays and a shamrock for St. Patrick’s Day! Social Media Today speculates that one day an event, say the oscars, may even sponsor a reaction.

I for one, am very excited to see the development of the tool over the course of the year. Especially due to the recent study on the tool conducted by the social analytics firm Quintly which discovered that — well, no one is using the reactions.

Did you use the Thankful Reaction? What did you think? Tell me about it in the comments below.
